Volvo Auto India has launched the all-new S90 sedan at a sticker price of Rs. 53.50 Lakhs (pre-octroi, ex-showroom, Mumbai) in the country. Replacing the ageing S80 sedan in the Indian market, it shares most of its components with the XC90 SUV. The Bookings for the S90 sedan have started, while deliveries are promised from the first week of December. Volvo S90 would be at loggerheads with the likes of Mercedes-Benz E Class, BMW 5 Series, Audi A6 and Jaguar XF. The Swedish automaker has also announced that it would launch the more powerful D5 diesel variant of the sedan in 2017.
Volvo S90 has been launched in the top-of-the-line Inscription trim, with all the bells and whistles. Being based on the company's modular SPA platform, it flaunts Volvo's latest design language, which was first seen with XX90. As for features, it gets ‘Thor's Hammer’ LED headlights, power adjustable front seats with memory function and ventilation, 4-zone electronic climate control with cooled glovebox, power sunroof, keyless entry, 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Navigation, Bowers & Wilkins audio system, etc. to name a few. The S90 also comes with rear air suspension as standard fitment, while safety equipments include airbags, lane keep assist, and emergency brake assist.
Being the company's flagship sedan, the S90 is powered by a 2.0L D4 diesel engine which churns out 190bhp of top power and 400Nm of peak torque. It is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission, which transmits the power to the front wheels. The sedan also boasts of a drive mode selector with three driving modes: Eco, Comfort and Dynamic. The S90 would be retailed as CBU, as every other Volvo product.
