Volvo India has launched the much anticipated new XC90 SUV for a starting price of Rs 64.90 Lakh (ex-showroom) in the country. Volvo India will offer two trims for the new XC90 - the Inscription Luxury that will be priced for Rs 77.9 Lakh and the Momentum Luxury model for Rs 64.90 Lakh (both ex-showroom). Widely regarded as the safest SUV in the world, the XC90 will be offered with a diesel engine only.
The new XC90 will be based on the Volvo's latest SPA (Scalable Platform Architecture) platform. While both the variants get LED headlamps as standard feature, there are changes in the features list. The base Momentum trim features a panoramic sunroof, a 12.3-inch touchscreen display and power-folding third row seats. On the other hand, the Inscription grade gets additional features like the air suspension system, a head-up display, and a 19-speaker B&W music system.
Like mentioned above, the India-spec second-generation XC90 will be powered by a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder diesel engine that would generate a maximum power of 225 bhp and 470 Nm of peak torque. The power will be sent to all the four-wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission. Volvo might launch the hybrid variant of the XC90 in the near future.
Tomas Ernberg, MD, Volvo India said, "The wait is finally over now. With all-new Volvo XC90, we are not just launching a car, but re-launching our brand. An example of Volvo-by-Volvo, the new XC90 marks the beginning of a new chapter for Volvo Cars, capturing its future design direction, incorporating its own range of new technologies and utilizing its new Scalable Product Architecture (SPA)."
Volvo India will commence the delivery of the new XC90 from August this year and the SUV will be available for public preview from July. Second-generation Volvo XC90 will compete against the Audi Q7, Mercedes-Benz GL Class, BMW X5 and the Land Rover Discovery Sport.
