Volvo had unveiled the India-bound all-new XC90 SUV in August last year, while it made its public debut at the Paris Motor Show in October 2014. Now, we have come to know that it would be launched in India around September-October this year. Volvo Auto India would start accepting pre-orders for the same in and around June 2015. For your information, the first batch of 1927 units of Volvo XC90 was sold merely in 48 hours after going on sale.
Underpinning the new SPA (Scalable Platform Architecture), the all-new Volvo XC90 is around 200 kgs. lighter than the preceding model due to extensive use of boron steel in its body. It measures 4,950 mm in length, 1,923 mm in width and 1,776 mm in height. Inside the cabin, it features a new tablet-like touchscreen in the centre and new four-zone automatic climate control system with clean zone air purification system, which offers individual settings for the first the second row. The premium 7-seater SUV is the first Volvo car to carry the company’s new more prominent iron mark, which has the iconic arrow elegantly aligned with the diagonal slash across the grille.
The XC90 has been offered in three fuel trims - petrol, diesel and hybrid. But, India would only get the D5 diesel motor which rakes in a healthy power of 225bhp. However, the company might introduce the AWD T8 Twin Engine petrol with plug-in hybrid, which dishes out 400 bhp, in 2016. Volvo Auto India has refrained to comment on anything regarding the XC90, but seems quite certain that XC90 would be on Indian roads by the Q3 2015. Fingers crossed though!
