Aprilia and Vespa will soon update their scooter portfolio with ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System) and CBS (Combi-Braking System) in the country. The deadline for the new safety net for the two-wheelers will end on March 31, 2019 and from April 2019, all the two-wheelers above 125cc will come with ABS. In fact, bikes or scooters with 125cc or less will be fitted with CBS.
While the updated Aprilia and Vespa scooter range is yet to arrive at the dealerships, the price list of the new models have been leaked on the internet. The report claims that the new prices show an increase of around Rs 10,000, which is mainly due to ABS & CBS. While the Aprilia SR 150 ABS is priced at Rs 1.06 lakh, the SR 125 CBS is tagged at Rs 89,500. The Vespa scooter range includes SXL 150 ABS, VXL 150 ABS, SXL 125 CBS and VXL 125 CBS - priced at Rs 1.29 lakh, 1.26 lakh, 1.21 lakh and 1.15 lakh, respectively. All the prices are on-road Mumbai including five-year insurance.
The updated scooter range is likely to hit dealerships in the first week of January 2019. The Aprilia SR150, Vespa SXL 150 and the Vespa VXL 150 will receive a single-channel ABS system, while the 125cc Aprilia and Vespa scooters will be equipped with Combi-Braking System. The new scooters will continue with the existing engine specs and design. Spy images of the new models reveal that the Aprilia SR 150 ABS will be equipped with MRF Nylogrip Zapper tyres instead of the VEE rubber.
The Vespa 150 is powered by a 150cc, 3-valve, air-cooled engine that produces a maximum power output of 11.4bhp at 7,000rpm while yielding a peak torque of 11.5Nm at 5,500rpm. On the flip side, the Aprilia SR 150 gets a 154.8cc, single-cylinder, 3-valve engine that is capable of producing 10.25bhp of power at 6,750rpm and a peak torque of 11.4Nm at 5,000rpm.
Powering the Vespa 125 is a 125cc, 3-valve, air-cooled engine producing 9.5bhp of power at 7,250rpm and 9.9Nm of torque at 6,250rpm. On the other hand, the Aprilia SR125 is propelled by a 124.9cc engine that produces 9.51bhp of power at 7,250rpm and 9.9Nm of torque at 6,250rpm.
