Aston Martin has pulled the veil off the DBS Superleggera Volante convertible. It is based on the DBS Superleggera with prices starting from GBP 247,500 in the UK market. Deliveries for the convertible are estimated to commence from the third quarter of 2019. In terms of proportion, DBS Superleggera Volante convertible measures 4,175 mm in length, 2,145 mm in width and 1,295 mm in height. It sits on a 2,805 mm long wheelbase, hinting at a spacious cabin with comfortable room for occupants at the front as well as rear. A dry weight of 1,863 kg and 50:50 weight distribution works in favour of the convertible. In visual terms, it gets a large Aston Martin grille at the front, large air intakes at both ends, stylish headlamps with LED units and V-shaped daytime running lights.
The long low slung carbon fibre bonnet also gets two air vents. An air vent is also given behind the front wheel. A prominent shoulder line rising above the rear wheels taper at the lower door areas and flush sitting door handles. The dual diffusers at the rear aide improved aerodynamics. In addition, a thin spoiler, sleek tail lamps and quad circular exhausts can also be seen at the back.
On the inside, the convertible mimics the styling of the coupe version. The DBS Superleggera Volante convertible features eight layers of insulation materials along with acoustically optimized materials, while the carbon fibre windshield is optional. As per company claims, the roof can be lowered in 14 seconds, while it takes 16 seconds to put it up. Moreover, the roof can be operated either from inside the car or through the key fob within the 2-meter radius of the convertible.
The DBS Superleggera Volante convertible draws power from a 5.2-litre, bi-turbo, V12 engine good for making top power of 715 bhp at 6,500 rpm against a peak torque of 900 Nm between 1,800 to 5,000 rpm. It gets a ZF sourced 8-speed automatic gearbox and a carbon fibre prop shaft which helps send power to the rear wheels. Powered by a V12 engine, the DBS Superleggera Volante convertible is claimed to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.6 seconds and the top speed offered stands at 339.57 km/h.
