Audi CEO Rupert Stadler has been arrested amidst the concern that he could influence the ongoing investigation of Dieselgate scam involving Volkswagen and Audi. Initially, it was found that many Volkswagen’s EA189 series TDI diesel engine powered cars were equipped with emission cheating software. Later, Audi and Porsche models too were found affected by the scandal.

It’s been three years, since the Dieselgate scandal broke out, initially in USA and later across the world. Since then, Volkswagen AG has been facing several investigations across the world. Also, Volkswagen and its subsidiary brands have been subject of huge penalties from several government authorities across the world. Arrest of Rupert Stadler comes as the latest development in this scenario. He will be questioned on Wednesday by the prosecutors.

Previously, former Volkswagen CEO Martin Winterkorn and five others were accused for misleading the investigation. Another top boss of the company Oliver Schmidt was fined USD 4,00,000 besides being sentenced to 7 years of imprisonment in USA.

As a result of the scam, Volkswagen has shifted its focus towards the zero emission electric vehicles in order to salvage its brand image. Also, the company and its subsidiary brands recalled the affected vehicles across the world to fix the emission cheating software.
