Audi has started teasing the e-tron quattro concept ahead of its world premiere at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA) in September. The German luxury automaker said that e-tron quattro would be the company's first ever purely electric SUV. The concept car provides a sneak-peak into Audi's Q6 crossover coupe, which is said to be on offer with an electric engine, albeit initially.
Audi has revealed that e-tron quattro concept would enter prodcution in 2018, and first production-ready model would come out the same year. Being based on the second-generation MLB platform, Audi e-tron quattro would have a driving range of around 500 kilometers. It follows the Audi “Aerosthetics” concept, combining technical measures for reducing aerodynamic drag with creative design solutions. Audi e-tron quattro concept has length lesser than the Q7, while greater than the Q5. It gives clear indication that it is, indeed, the Q6 crossover coupe and would be slotted between the two aforementioned SUVs. The company further stated that it has a typical SUV body and flat, while having a coupé-like cabin, which is good enough for four people. The large lithium-ion battery is positioned between the axles and below the passenger compartment. This installation position provides for a low centre of gravity and a balanced axle load distribution. Audi has used its experience with the electrically driven Audi R8 e-tron sports car for the drive system with Three electric motors – one on the front axle and two on the rear – at the helm of affairs.
