It seems like there is no stopping for Audi, with the number of launches they did this year. Few days back we reported that Audi is planning to launch the open top A3, the A3 Cabriolet next month, and now Audi has confirmed its official launch on 11th December, 2014. Showcased at the 2014 Auto Expo in New Delhi, the Cabriolet will add to line of very limited open top cars in India.
The major difference between the A3 and the A3 Cabriolet will be the addition of a fabric retractable roof, and removal of two doors. The looks are more or less the same, with the A3 Cabriolet reflecting a more sporty feel, thanks to the fabric roof, stretched over a lightweight magnesium steel made mechanism, that helps the roof to open or close within 18 seconds, with a touch of a button, at speeds as high as 50kmph.
The Audi A3 Cabriolet is expected to come with the same two engine options, petrol and diesel, as in the international markets. The petrol variant will have two engine options, further, one 1.4 litre TFSI engine that produces 140 bhp of power and the other 1.8 litre TFSI unit producing 180 bhp of power. The diesel variant is powered by the 2.0 litre TDI motor that delivers 150 bhp of power. Both these engines come mated to a seven-speed S-tronic twin-clutch transmission.
The sheer fun of driving an open top can't be expressed in words, but to experience this fun, you have to shell out as much as Rs 45 lakh to Rs 50 lakh. There are only a few options available in India, as far as the convertibles go, the Audi A3 Cabriolet will surely find the right amount of customers.
