We heard a rumor back in July about the possibility of seeing a new engine in the 2016 S4 Sedan and Avant and now Audi has made the news official by introducing in Frankfurt the new generation S4 with a TFSI 3.0-liter V6 motor. It develops 354 bhp and a maximum torque of 500 Nm which enables the sedan to perform the 0-100 kmph sprint in as little as 4.7 seconds before hitting a top speed of 250 kmph which as you might have guessed already has been electronically capped like all German automakers have been doing for quite some time with their performance cars.
As you would expect from an S model, the brand new 2016 Audi S4 Sedan and Avant have a permanent quattro all-wheel drive system which receives the engine’s power via a tweaked eight-speed tiptronic gearbox that according to the Ingolstadt-based marque has fast gear changes and increases fuel efficiency. Speaking of which, Audi says the S4 will do more than 13.5 kmpl which is more than decent for a performance car.
It should be mentioned the new S4 models have a self-locking center differential and under normal driving conditions it transfers 60% of the engine’s torque to the rear wheels, but depending on various situations, up to 85% can be transferred to the rear axle or as much as 70% to the front wheels. This way, the S4 will provide the best possible traction depending on the type of road and the speed of the vehicle.
Compared to the regular A4 (B9), the S has a sportier suspension which has lowered the car by 23 mm and it rides on bespoke 18-inch rims wrapped around in 245/40 tires while at an additional cost Audi is providing larger 19-inch alloys. Also for more money you can get matrix LED headlights, head-up display, 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a tailgate sensor control available exclusively on the S4 Avant model.
Audi will start selling the new S4s at the beginning of 2016.
