Augmented and virtual reality now a part of the buying experience.
Audi has launched two new features for its range in the Indian market. The first deals with prospective customers – they can see the car they’re interested in purchasing with whatever options they’d like specified through Augmented Reality or Virtual Reality setup. Audi calls this the Virtual Reality studio. This can be done at a place of the customer’s choosing as well, and not only at the dealership. The AR/VR experience will debut with the A8L and will filter down to the rest of the range subsequently.
The second launch deals with customers who already own Audis – the ‘myAudi Connect’ app is an app that, in a phrase, takes care of everything ownership-related. It will monitor the vehicle’s health and remind you to book services whenever necessary. It will even store service history and the car’s documents. During regular driving, it will log the driver’s driving style and analyse how the driving can be improved. In the event there is a mishap, it will send out SOS alerts.
Geofencing is also one of its features, so if the Audi moves outside a stipulated area, or it is being towed, the owner is notified. It will even locate the car for the owner on a map. Notifications are also sent if there is a ‘disturbance’ – meaning if someone tries to tamper with the car. The myAudi Connect app also has features like ‘music from Audi’, ‘audiobook’, and a ‘Concierge Desk’. It will also allow dealers to control their entire fleet.
Audi has launched these new features at a new dealership in Sector 29, Gurugram. It is spread over 10,500 sq ft. There is also a service area adjoining the mention sales area. The service area covers 48,000 sq ft and has 33 service bays and a state-of-the-art body shop. The dealership is Audi’s first ‘Digital Retail’ outlet in the country and incorporates the augmented reality and virtual reality tools mentioned earlier. Bookings for the new A8 are now open, and customers can configure their A8 virtually – this includes changes to the exterior, interior, wheels, dashboard trim, and whatever else is on the options list. They can even see how it looks while parked in their own driveway using AR. Prospective owners can also have the massage function and airbag deployment simulated.
The Audi Shop has also been launched. Fans of the brand can now purchase merchandise online by visiting the Audi website.
