Although some were still hoping to see a fully-fledged RS8, Audi has decided to offer the next best thing: an S8 Plus. It’s probably more than enough to suit everyone’s thirst for power as the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine now generates a whopping 605 bhp and 700 Nm, so there’s probably no need for an even beefier RS8.

Don’t let the rather somewhat docile appearance trick you into believing this is a run-of-the-mill A8 because underneath that understated body is a properly quick machine which despite its sheer size and weight will do the 0-100 kmph task in as little as 3.8 seconds and will keep on accelerating until the electronic top speed limiter will kick in at 250 kmph. At an additional cost, those who will want to go beyond this speed will be able to order an optional kit increasing the limiter to an impressive 305 kmph.

The most powerful A8-based model ever made, Audi’s monster S8 Plus is equipped as standard with matrix LED headlights with dynamic turn signals and rides on bespoke 21-inch lightweight alloys shod in 275/35 tires. All that power is sent to a quattro permanent all-wheel drive system with help from an eight-speed tiptronic automatic transmission.

It can be visually distinguished thanks to the glossy black singleframe grille and double bars at the front while a matte black finish has been applied onto the honeycomb pattern on the radiator screen and side air inlets. The interior also hosts some tweaks such as the unique black leather upholstery with red stitching combined with a piano black center console and stainless steel pedal set.

Audi is offering the S8 Plus with plenty of standard kit including (but not limited to) full leather & Alcantara packages, convenience key (with sensor-driven trunk locking), power-assisted door closing, ambient lighting and a CD/DVD changer, just to name a few.

It’s programmed to go on sale this November and in its domestic market it will cost €145,200 (10.46 million INR).
