In a bid to tap a bigger market share in the entry level luxury car segment, Audi India is planning to bring in the A3 Sedan. While BMW and Mercedes-Benz already have 1-Series and A Class premium hatchbacks as their most affordable vehicles in the country, Audi has plans to counter its rivals with Audi A3 entry level premium sedan. The entry level sedan is expected to be unveiled at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo in February, while launch will happen after that.
Expected to be priced aggressively in the Rs 22-25 lakh price bracket, the all new Audi A3 sedan will be made available in both petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol model will be powered by the 1.4-litre TFSI engine that churns out a maximum power output of 140PS. Audi might as well bring the 1.8L TFSI engine which develops 180PS. On the other hand, the A3 diesel is likely to be made available with a 1.8-litre and a 2.0-litre diesel engine options. Globally, the A3 is also sold with the 105PS, 1.6L TDI diesel mill, though it's still unclear whether this engine will power the India bound A3 or not.
In terms of equipment level, the Audi A3 is expected to sport features like Audi's Drive Select system, a multi functional steering, two-zone climate control and few others. To bring its cost down, Audi might also launch a stripped down version of the car in India.
