Audi India’s racing talent Aditya Patel had a tough season opener at Sepang as his Audi R8 LMS GT3 faced some technical issues. This problem cost the team a possible podium finish. The young racer had to retire early in the race one and he also started mid-pack in the race 2. Clearly, this was not what Audi India expected at th Sepang International Circuit.
While losing point can be critical in championship, OD Racing Team WRT is hopeful to positive results in upcoming races. Director of OD Racing Team WRT, Mr. Cornelius Ee has mentioned how the last year championship result was determined by a single point. Team manager Ron Reichert has said, last weekend was hard for the team. He also mentioned that the team has found the issue and changed it.
The team struggled all the weekend with pace and qualified 6th and 11th respectively during the sessions. However, when Aditya Patel took the Audi R8 LMS GT3 from 6th place to 3rd in just 15 minutes, the disaster struck as a hose broke ending the team’s race right there. In the second race, Gilbert started from 11th and was caught up in the fighting pack right from the beginning.
Despite fighting hard, Gilbert’s car saw brakes wearing down too fast as he had to be extra cautious to break away from the pack. Howevrr he maintained steady pace and handed the car to Aditya Patel in 12th. The team finally finished the race in 10th. The team is positive about their overall journey in 2018 Blancpain GT Series Asia Championship.
