Audi is a very aggressive company when it comes to pushing its cars into the Indian market, and now they hope to continue their leadership with the brand new A3, which is slated to be released on August 7th. Although pricing is unclear, what is known is that it will take on the BMW 1-series and the A-class Mercedes, which means a Rs. 25 lakh pricing should be the norm. This would make it an alternative also to the limited edition Q3 manual, which the company has reintroduced at Rs. 25 lakh into the Indian market.

Interestingly, the company has come up with a new classification system for its cars, which can leave many befuddled. The new 1.8-litre TFSi engine with its 177 horses will be classified as a ‘40TFSi’ whilst the 2.0-litre TDi with its 141 horses becomes '35 TDi.’  Go figure.

Both the engines come mated to automatic gearboxes and are reportedly quite fun to drive. We shall of course have the complete details up soon, as Deputy Editor Ashish Masih is currently test driving the car somewhere in the middle of the country, but expect the A3 to be a baby Audi complete with all family design cues and luxury trappings. Do watch out for our detailed test drive report…
