The luxury car segment has become a very competitive segment around and being an automaker is not easy. A giant automaker, Audi, had recently been overhauled by Mercedes Benz, who acquired the top spot in the Indian luxury car department. With the intention to hit the top spot again, Audi has slated the A5 Cabriolet and Q2 compact SUV for an Indian launch.

Moreover, considering that the Indian prospect buyers are often more inclined towards buying a compact hatchback, the German luxury carmaker might even think about launching a hatchback to blow up its product gallery.

The present President of Audi, Rahil Ansari, said that the company will now focus on newer products and customer service and satisfaction. The company had lost its top slot to Mercedes back in 2015 and then witnessed a sharp decline in terms of sales figures and volume in 2016.

However, even though the company needs to fix the issues and the downslide of 2016, they wouldn’t consider doing it by offering large discounts and freebies because this would only offer short term repairs and not long term sustainability.

The new generation A5, that was unveiled in the mid-2016, will come at a time when Mercedes offers the E-series sedan and BMW rolls out the new 5-series. The A5 will be powered by a 2.0-litre engine and will be mated with a 7-speed automatic transmission gearbox.

Speaking about the possibility of introducing hatchbacks in India against the Mercedes A and B-series, Ansari said that even though there is a huge market demand for hatchbacks, the premium luxury section is driven by sedans and luxury SUVs.
