Bajaj has been suffering a little bit in terms of sales volume in last couple of years. It has been evident in the fact that TVS has sold more two wheelers than Bajaj in past two months. Though, there is nothing that should scare the hard core Bajaj fans out there, the Pune based company still has one of the best profitability among the two wheeler manufacturers in the country. Moreover, with the launches of eagerly and desperately awaited, Pulsar 200SS, (might also be coming very soon , the Pulsar 400SS), and then there are new versions of the Discover and the Platina too, which will more or less cover the lost ground for the company.
Amidst this, great news is coming from our Neighbour country Sri Lanka for the Pune based Behemoth of a company. The government of Sri Lanka has given an order of 1.25 lakh units of the very capable Discover 125M. The Pulsar maker had got an order of 50,000 units for the same bike earlier and had fulfilled it successfully, thereby getting a repeat order. Getting such a big order from out of the country is just what Bajaj Auto might be looking out for as the company turns heavy attention to exports. This big order will take at least four months to fulfil with the cost of each bike being Rs. 50,500/- (ex-showroom, Delhi).
Obviously pricing for a bulk deal will be lower and considering Bajaj Auto’s aggression in export volumes, the Sri Lankan government would have got quite the deal. Bajaj sells bikes in Sri Lanka through its distributor David Pieris Motor Company. Though, Bajaj Auto isn’t done with launching new Discover models because the current Discover 125M is going to be replaced by a new Discover 125 model next year, the company bringing in learning's from the Discover 150 which was launched just recently. Still, the Discover 125M is quite a good bike which offers decent performance and high value for your money.
