Bajaj has been feeling the heat from sometime. In terms of domestic sales, it got overtaken by Honda and recently by TVS, and has slipped to 4th spot in Indian market. Many blame it on Bajaj's exit from the scooter market which has been witnessing growth from some time now. In order to make a comeback, Bajaj has decided to launch two new 150cc avatars of its highly successful Discover. One would be a usual naked avatar like the present version of Discover with a futuristic look and will be known as Discover 150S. The another version - the Discover 150F - will come with a semi-fairing which is similar to the Pulsar 220. Both the bikes will be powered by a twin-spark, four-valve, 150cc engine that will deliver somewhere around 15bhp of max. power and 12Nm of peak torque. There are speculations of both the bikes coming with a monoshock at the rear.
Discover is one of the most sought after bikes in the commuter segment which forms the majority of the Indian motorcycle market. With a fairing being added to a commuter bike, Bajaj has decided to add some style to an otherwise very average looking motorcycle. This move should be an instant hit as the price expected for the 150cc Discovers is between Rs. 55,000 and Rs. 60,000 in Delhi.
The Discover 150S has already reached some of the Bajaj dealerships whereas the Discover 150F should be made available to Indian customers somewhere in August.
