The Bajaj Auto has begun its new model offensive in India to take on its rivals. We have been talking about how Bajaj will be launching 6 new motorcycles in the country in next 6 months and Bajaj has started off with a bang. Platina has arrived in a 100cc avatar and now claims to be the most efficient motorcycle that has seen a launch in the country, at 96.9kmpl. The new Platina is currently on its way to dealerships and would be available for sale at an ex-showroom (Delhi) price of Rs 44,507.

Bajaj had been facing a serious threat from it rivals in the 100cc commuter segment where the Platina 100cc though still selling in good numbers but is constantly losing ground to competitors like the Hero Splendor, Hero Passion and the Honda's brilliant Dream Yuga series. To counter it, Bajaj has came out with the New Platina ES that it claims is the 'World Mileage Champion' at a claimed fuel efficiency of 96.9 kmpl. Powering the Platina ES is a new 102cc single-cylinder with Bajaj's DTSi technology and ExhausTEC. The similar engine also powers the Discover 100M, but in a higher state of tune - 9bhp and 9.02Nm. In the case of Platina ES, the engine is tuned to return 8bhp and 8.7Nm.

Apart from the changes in the engine, the new Platina ES as the name suggests, gets an electric starter alongside the standard kick starter. In terms of overall design, not much has changed, although it receives new side panels, brighter graphics and a slightly tweaked exhaust. With such fuel efficiency claims and the much respect brand name of Platina behind, this launch from Bajaj is aims squarely at destroying the competition and with the looks of it, Bajaj auto might just be back with a big bang.
