It’s an irony that Bajaj, whose Chetak once defined the scooter segment in India, can nowhere be seen in today’s gearless scooter segment. The company launched Kristal DTS-i back in 2007, but soon discontinued it as there were no takers. Bajaj is one of the leading brands when it comes to motorcycles, and it’s a no-brainer that sooner or later, it will make an attempt to regain its lost glory in the scooter segment.
It seems the company still believes that this time too it will be the Chetak who would bring back the crown. Rumour has that the company is planning to relaunch the Chetak as a premium gearless scooter in India. A set of images is doing rounds on the internet that claims to showcase the design of the upcoming scooter.
Being a premium scooter, the Bajaj Chetak is expected to be priced higher than the regular gearless scooters like Honda Activa or TVS Jupiter. Once launched, it would compete with other premium scooters like Vespa range or Aprilia SR150.
The new Bajaj Chetak is expected to be powered by a 125 to 150 cc four-stroke single cylinder engine. Just like the Vespa range, it might feature a retro design with a lightweight chassis. According to the reports, it might get advanced suspension components, DTS-i tech engine and front disc brake (optional).
The company may also offer a range of optional accessories along with the new Chetak. There’s no info on pricing yet, but considering it would be launched as a premium scooter, you can expect it to be priced somewhere between Rs 75,000 to Rs 85,000.
