  • The Bajaj Pulsar 125, 150, 180, 200, and 220 will soon be available as BS-VI compliant models.

  • The Bajaj Pulsar range of bikes will get the new fuel injection system to comply with BS-VI emission norms.

  • New features will also be available to these bikes to justify the price rise.

The April 01, 2020 deadline for BSVI emission norms compliance is arriving soon. In response, TVS Motor Company has already launched the 2020 Apache RTR 200 4V and the 160 4V with BSVI-compliant engines along with updated powertrains and new technologies. Bajaj Auto is also following suit with plans of introducing the BSVI range of Bajaj Pulsar bikes across all capacities.

The Bajaj Pulsar 150 is the top-selling Bajaj model for a long time. The Bajaj Pulsar 125 has also helped to boost the sales volumes of the brand. Besides being identical to the Bajaj Pulsar 150 in many respects, the 125cc variant presents an affordable option for consumers.

Apart from the 125cc and 150cc variants, Bajaj Pulsar is also available in the 180cc and 220cc versions, as well. The Bajaj Pulsar 125 price is around Rs 66,000, whereas the flagship model, Bajaj Pulsar RS 200, is available at Rs 1.40 lakhs.

Bajaj Auto had hiked the prices of the Bajaj Pulsar range of bikes in July citing an increase in input costs and the prevailing economic situation. The introduction of BSVI-compliance features could also result in an enhancement in the prices by 10 to 15 percent. Bajaj Auto plans to include additional features to justify the price rise.

The entire range of Bajaj Pulsar bikes, the 125, 150, 180, and 220 could feature fuel-injected engines. BSVI-compliance can result in slightly lower power and torque. However, the vehicles will require updated exhaust systems that could increase the kerb weight. Some of the internal engine components could also need a revamping.

Bajaj is renowned for introducing engineering innovations. Time will tell what features Bajaj might introduce to nullify the reduced performance levels and improve fuel efficiency to comply with BSVI emission norms. The introduction of the Bajaj Chetak Electric scooter is also very much on the cards, and so is the introduction of the Husqvarna brand early in 2020.
