Bajaj's motorcycle sales increase by just 2% this August

Bajaj Auto witnessed what is called a muted growth in its August sales this year. Despite doing exceptionally well in commercial vehicle category where it surged by 56% over August 2013, it did just OK in motorcycles. Bajaj Auto Ltd. (BAL) told the stock exchanges in a communication that it sold 2,84,302 motorcycles in August 2014 which is 2% more than 2,78,573 - the units it sold in August 2013. Things were much brighter for Discover - BAL's best bet in the market so far - which reported a 16% growth in its August sales making it 93,000 units.
Commercial vehicles boomed to 52,538 units against 33,605 units sold last August, which is a 56 per cent increase. Commercial vehicles sales was also BAL's highest for any month. The company's total sales increased by 8% keeping both the categories in mind. Bajaj Auto is now aiming to sell 4,00,000 automobiles in the month of September.
Bajaj also exported 1,75,127 units during August as compared to 1,44,160 units sold in 2013 making it a 21 per cent jump. August also witnessed the maximum export figure in a month for Bajaj.
