Bentley is aiming high to tap the luxurious off-roader market with its upcoming SUV called Bentayga. Recently named, the Bentley Bentayga was recently spotted for the first time wearing a deceiving camouflage near Cape Town, South Africa by a reader of Auto Plus. To be unveiled later this year, the test mule had faux body panels.
Wolfgang Dürheimer, Chairman and CEO of Bentley Motors, once said that “Bentayga is a name that reflects what we know our SUV will do better than any other car in the world – combine the best automotive luxury with outstanding performance to take the Bentley experience to new environments.” Moreover, it has been known through various sources that it would be the world's most expensive SUV ever built.
Bentley is confident about selling 3000 units of the SUV per year and believes that Bentayga will be the pinnacle of luxury and performance. The company released a couple of teaser images and videos to create an anticipation in the market before naming the car in January this year. The SUV will be revealed in late 2015 while the sale will begin from 2016.
In December, Bentley made an announcement to upgrade its Crewe-based headquarters with a planned GBP 40 million investment for a new styling studio, R&D offices, and a technical workshop. The company may add a plug-in hybrid variant in the lineup in 2017. The company might also launch this SUV in India too.
