Exhibited these days at the ongoing Frankfurt Motor Show, the brand new SUV from Bentley also made a big splash in United States as another pre-production unit was parked in front of the five-star St. Regis hotel in New York. As you would expect, many people took out their cameras and smartphones to take a picture of Bentley’s first ever SUV which as you can see stands out in this segment with a rather controversial design that surely won’t be appreciated by everyone.
Bentley is using some big words to describe the Bentayga as they say it’s the most powerful, fastest and luxurious SUV in the world and this bold statement has convinced a lot of people already to buy the vehicle as the first year of production has reached sold out states after the Crewe-based automaker received 3,600 orders. Deliveries are scheduled to begin before the end of the year and the very first production unit is heading to UK as Queen Elizabeth II will have the privilege of getting the #001 car.
The Bentayga will go down in history as having the most expensive optional equipment on offer: a £110,000 Breitling Tourbillon clock that winds itself. The car’s starting price stands at £160,200, but the numerous goodies available at an additional cost can increase the price tag to more than £500,000, so it’s safe to say the Bentley SUV is one of the most exclusive cars ever made.
Upon launch it will be available only with a W12 6.0-liter twin-turbo engine developing 600 bhp and 900 Nm, but Bentley has already confirmed a plug-in hybrid version will join the range in 2017 and there also might be a diesel engine, representing a first for the brand. It should be mentioned the Bentayga is based on the second generation Audi Q7 but adopts an entirely different exterior along with a far more luxurious interior cabin.
