It is almost known to everyone that Bentley is working on an anonymous crossover SUV which is expected to go on sale in 2016. The British ultra-luxury automaker has teased the SUV several times through pictures and videos and even, it has been spied as test mule a couple of times. If the latest reports are to be believed, the company has trademarked "Bentayga" and it could christen the crossover SUV with this name.
Bentley has confirmed that the crossover SUV would be launched in 2016 and it could be called the "Bentayga". he name is derived from a rock formation found in Gran Canaria in the Canary Islands (Canaries), a Spanish archipelago located off the coast of Morocco. Based on the highly criticised EXP 9 F concept, it is being touted as the "most luxurious and powerful SUV on the planet" by the company. Also, if the company places a W12 engine under the hood, then it would be the "fastest SUV on sale" as well. Bentley also has plans to follow it up with a plug-in hybrid version in 2017 as the company expect it to be faring immensely well because almost 30 percent of potential buyers have expressed their desire to go for the hybrid.
Underpinning the MLB Evo platform, the new Bentley SUV apart from the 6.0L, W12 motor and plug-in hybrid version, would also in-house couple of lighter powertrains in form of twin-turbo V8 4.0-liter and 4.2-liter V8 TDI. Both these engines would be sourced from Audi and would be tweaked by the company engineers to make it compatible with the SUV. As for pricing, Bentley high command has clearly indicated that it will be more expensive than current high-end SUVs and would be priced around £130,000 (Around Rs. 1.27 Crore).
