The month was October and the hopes were high. The festive season was on its full swing and trade pundits were waiting for the October sales figures to come, as an increase in sales was inevitbale. Despite all the facts, October 2014 didn't bring in any good news and instead, it posted a decline of 0.45 from the October 2013 numbers. Total number of passenger cars sold in October 14 were 2.16 lakh units as compared to October 2013 figures of 2.25 lakh.
October 14 saw some of the most awaited launches starting from the Tata's ambitious Zest to Maruti's premium offering, Ciaz. Carrying forward the sales trend from September 14, 9 out of 10 cars belong to Maruti and Hyundai, with M&M being the only other company to be featured with their rugged SUV, Bolero.
The top 4 cars in the list belong to Maruti, with Maruti Alto ruling the sales once again selling 21443 units. Maruti Dzire, Maruti WagonR, and Maruti Swift, followed the Alto to gain top spots. Interestingly, Maruti Swift saw a huge decline in the sales with 11965 units sold as against September's 17265 units. The reason could be linked to Maruti offering the facelifted Swift from this month.
On the fifth spot, Mahindra featured with their Bolero, one of the most beloved SUV of India. They were not able to feature on the list last month with the only other entry apart from Maruti and Hyundai being the Honda City. Hyundai took the sixth, seventh and eighth spot in the list with their Elite i20, Grand 10 and Eon. Ninth and tenth spot again went to Maruti’s all-new Ciaz sedan and Omni.
