Earlier, we came up with lots of spy shot images of the compact sedan by the BMW, well the brand has finally unveiled the premium compact segment BMW 1 Series sedan. Until now, the 3 series has been BMW’s entry level sedan, but from now on, the 1 Series has taken that tag and is a new notch back. BMW unveiled the Concept version of the compact sedan at the 2015 Guangzhou Motor Show 2015 in China that was envisioned to take on the likes of the Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class and Audi A3 sedan.
Going by the looks, the 1 Series Sedan shares some design cues from the concept like the kidney grille, sleek LED headlamps along with wing styled air intakes, while you will see less use of chrome in the production version compared to the concept. Inside, borrowing some features it could be offered with a heads-up display, an 8.8-inch touchscreen, separate climate control for the rear passenger seat and a dual tone colour theme.
Though the engine specs has not been announced officially, but it could get a front-wheel drive model with engine options including a three-potted 1.5-litre turbo that is also found in the F56 MINI Cooper, and a 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder incorporated in the Cooper S. Transmission will be carried out by a six-speed manual or six-speed and eight-speed automatic gearboxes.
It will be solely produced in China, where the development and testing of the new car was taken place in the BMW headquarters with the involvement of Chinese engineers.
