German car maker BMW, launched its 3-Series Gran Turismo (GT) at the recently concluded Delhi Auto Expo. Priced at INR 42.75 lakh (ex-showroom), the company rolled out the first locally made car from its plant at Mahindra World City in SingaperumalKoil. The deliveries of the 3 -Series GT have commenced.
The 3-Series GT is available only in the 320d GT variant. Power comes from a 2.0-litre, twin turbo diesel engine which churns out 187 PS of max output and 380 Nm of peak torque. The 3-series GT sprints from 0-100 kmph in just 7.9 sec. and has a top speed of 226 kmph. The duty of transferring power from the engine to the wheels is taken care of by an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission.
The BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo, with a coupe-style roofline and a flowing rear end with large load aperture, has dimensions greater than the standard sedan. The overall length is 200mm more, making the wheelbase longer by 110mm. The height has also been increased by 81mm in comparison to the 3 Series sedan.
The GT boasts of larger headlights, a larger grille, frameless side windows and a rear spoiler. This active rear spoiler plays an important part in the aerodynamic design of the vehicle and reduces lift at high speeds. It is automatically deployed when the car goes past 110kmph and will retract if the speed goes down below 70kmph. The car comes loaded with features such as BMW iDrive, 16.5cm central color information display and a good music system. Park distance control (PDC) rear and front along with rear view cameras are a standard feature in the 3 Series GT.
