According to reports BMW is planning to bring its smallest capacity in India and the company will be partnering with Chennai based TVS group to build the motorcycle in India itself. The motorcycle would be built in India and then it would be exported to countries of west including US.
According to Frank Schloeder, the President, of BMW India, the have big expectations from the smallest capacity BMW bike. Previously all the BMW motorcycles were transported in and afterward sold in India which made motorcycles quite costly. The G310R will be the first BMW motorcycle to be made in India.
The brand is clearly taking working on the retail and distribution process in India and one expect the vehicle hit showrooms by the Q1 of 2017. BMW Motorrad hasn’t revealed the pricing yet, however the G310R could be priced between Rs 2.0– 2.5 lakhs.The motorcycle will be manufactured at the TVS’s Hosur plant near Chennai. There is likewise news that TVS will deliver a neighborhood form of the G310R called the Akula 310. Reports also suggests TVS will also manufacture a local version of the G310R with the name of TVS Akula, which was showcased in the Auto Expo 2016.
The motorcycle is powered by features a 313cc engine, that can produce 34bhp of power and 28Nm of peak torque. The engine would be further connected with a 6-speed transmission system. The motorcycle can achieve a true top speed of 144km/h and will feature ABS as standard fitment. The combination of brilliant engineering of BMW and the cost-effective production techniques of TVS will definitely make this partnership a hit.
Once launched the G310R will compete with the segment king, the KTM Duke 390. The competition between these two would be a treat to watch, as how the KTM Duke 390 handles its European competitor.
