Both of them will receive their grand premiere on August 13 at BMW Villa during a special press conference at Pebble Beach. It’s not known at this point what sort of concepts BMW will show, but judging by what we can see in the attached official teaser image, at least one of them is going to be a performance-oriented vehicle.
These two concepts will also mark the 40th anniversary of BMW North America, so most likely the cars will be more than just for show. Chances are one of them is going to serve as a sneak preview for the highly anticipated M2 Coupe which will likely be shown in production guise in mid-September at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
The M2 holds very few secrets as we know it will use a turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine massaged to deliver somewhere in the region of 370 bhp and 465 Nm. There are also talks about an overboost function which upon activation will bump torque to a massive 500 Nm for a brief moment, ideal when performing overtakes. The engine is believed to work with either a six-speed manual gearbox and/or a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. Performance should be stellar as the 0-100 kmph will take less than four and a half seconds while top speed will likely stand at 274 kmph with the M Driver’s Package.
As for the other concept, it will probably preview the hardcore M4 Coupe which is believed to receive the “GTS” suffix. This one too is programmed to go official before the end of this year and compared to the regular M4 it will lose as much as 100 kg thanks to the removal of the rear seats and also other weight-saving measures. The lower curb weight will be corroborated with an output hike to a rumored 500 bhp thanks to a water injection system.
