BMW has launched the new M2 competition in India at Rs 79.90 lakh (ex-showroom) and it is the most affordable ‘M’ models that you find in the Indian market now. BMW India will offer the new affordable M model a total of five exterior colour options - Alpine White (non-metallic), while the rest four are with metallic finish - Sunset Orange, Long Beach Blue, Hockenheim Silver, and Black Sapphire.
Exterior wise, the new model gets an obvious sportier appearance than the coupe model it is based on. The face of the M2 Competition boasts of larger air dams and company’s signature front grille with a glossy finish. The masculinity of the model is enhanced with the design of the front bumper and shoulder running when you go by its side profile. At the rear, the quad exhaust tips add more charm to it.
Being an M model, the M badging is but obvious and the car gets this signature on the front grille, boot lid, the new instrument cluster, leather-wrapped steering wheel, seats and M seatbelts and hence, gets along with the sporty theme nicely.
Speaking of the equipment, the new BMW M2 competition will feature a 6.5-inch display infotainment with BMW’s iDrive controller, Bluetooth and USB connectivity, and seven speakers, but you can also opt for an 8.8-inch colour screen infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay that will come with a package of a 12-speaker sound system by Harman Kardon.
The interesting part comes here, where the new M2 Competition the 3.0-litre six-cylinder turbo-petrol engine that also serves its bibber M models like the M3 and M4 coupe, but it has been tuned down to make 405 bhp of maximum power with 550Nm of top torque. The power is transferred to the rear wheels through a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, while you can also take charge of the transmission system through paddle shifters, which is offered as standard. BMW M2 competition can bolt to 100kmph from standstill in just 4.2 seconds before hitting the electronically limited topspeed of 250kmph. That apart, the M2 Competition gets three drive modes - Comfort, Sport and Sport+, that can be chosen as per the driver’s need of ride and handling of the vehicle.
In terms of features, the new M2 Competition comes equipped with Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Brake Assist, Cornering Brake Control, Dynamic Stability Control, M Dynamic Mode (M-Specific switchable functions of Dynamic Stability Control, ISOFIX anchorage at the rear outer seats, three-point seat belts and belt force limiters in the front, Crash sensor and Dynamic braking lights
In India, the BMW M2 Competition directly pounces against the Porsche 718 Cayman (priced at Rs 85.95 lakh, ex-showroom).
