On BMW’s Deutschland official page on Facebook there’s a new teaser image which announces the imminent arrival of a new M model. It’s set to be unveiled later this month, but the identity of the vehicle is not known at this point. However, there are only two possibilities as it’s either the M2 Coupe or the M4 Coupe GTS. While some reports are indicating it’s the range-topping 2-Series model, others are saying this will be a lighter and more powerful version of the M4, so we will have to wait for the official reveal to find out which of the two will receive its world premiere.
If we’re dealing with the M2, this will be one of the most desirable M models in recent history as it’s set to employ an uprated version of the 6-cylinder, 3.0-liter engine believed to churn as much as 370 bhp and a maximum torque of 465 Nm (or 500 Nm with overboost). The motor will work with a standard 6-speed manual and an optional 7-speed DCT and this hardware setup will enable a 0-100 kmph run in less than four and a half seconds while the top speed will be electronically limited to 250 kmph, but there could be an optional kit to bump that limiter to approximately 274 kmph.
If the teaser previews the M4 GTS, this will be a more hardcore version of the standard M4, packing more power in a lighter body. Some say the motor will employ a water injection system which will increase output from the current 431 bhp to almost 500 bhp while the weight-saving measures are going to shave off an estimated 100 kg. Interestingly, the M4 GTS could also be BMW’s first production car to come with OLED taillights as seen in the namesake concept unveiled earlier this year.
The mysterious model will allegedly be unveiled on October 14, so the wait is almost over.
