BMW Motorrad has issued a recall for a total of 5,938 units of its bikes in the United States of America. The recalled bikes include the G 310 R (2017-2020), G 310 GS (2018-2020) and the C 400 X scooter (2019). The Northern American arm of the BMW Motorrad stated that it will alert and notify the affected owners while the company dealers will carry out the replacement work of front and rear brake calipers with no cost involved.
As per the recall information received through National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration (NHTSA), this recall was issued because the surface of the non-anodised brake caliper piston bore was exposed to inclement environmental and treatment conditions which lead to corrosion. This corrosion on the surface of brake caliper pistons can severely affect the piston’s clearance within the bore of the caliper. And, as a subsequent result of this, the brake caliper can freeze up and become non-functional, hence preventing the brake pads from coming in contact with the disc or from releasing it.
Although BMW India has confirmed that not a single unit sold in the country has been affected by this recall.
