BMW is mulling plan to launch the i3S in Indian market in near future. The electric car was displayed at the just concluded 2018 Delhi Auto Expo and it grabbed attention of the visitors. BMW i3S comes as the performance focused version of the regular i3 and it has pretty interesting performance capability. The i3S can reach 100 kmph in just 6.9 seconds with a top speed. Also, it can run up to 280 km on a single charge.
BMW i3S was first displayed at the IAA 2017 alongside the facelifted version of the standard i3. Now, with the car showcased in India we have enough reason to believe that the Bavarian luxury car giant will bring it here. However, possibility of success for this car certainly remains a question.
BMW i3S appears with similar silhouette as the standard i3, but there are distinctive styling elements. It gets unique front and rear bumper, while it runs on large 20-inch alloy wheels wrapped with wider tyres. Mechanically, it gets sports suspension. It can run at a top speed of 160 kmph. Speaking about its power source, BMW i3S gets a 33 kWh Li-Ion battery pack that provides energy to a 181 bhp generating electric motor. It also kicks out 270 Nm of peak torque. This means, the i3S churns out 13 bhp of extra power and 20 Nm of peak extra torque compared to the BMW i3.
BMW i3S comes with the fast charging technology that allows the battery to be charged up to 80% in just 39 minutes, while the battery needs 2 hours 45 minutes to be fully charged. Considering the fact that India is thriving to adopt zero emission mobility across the country by 2030, i3S could be an interesting product from the German brand. However, lack of charging infrastructure in India could be a problem for the car like any other electric vehicles here.
