BMW India, the Indian subsidy of the German luxury car maker, has been under the heat since Mercedes has been planning a E-Class longer wheelbase model for the first time in India. With this in mind, BMW has organised a preview event for its new generation G30 5-series. The event will be held in Delhi and is scheduled for the 3rd of February, 2017.
BMW had earlier showcased the seventh generation of the 5-series globally in October last year. The new 5-series model is based on the CLAR (Cluster Architecture), a new platform introduced by the company. Owing to this, this new generation 5-series cars are around a good 100 kgs lighter, even though it is marginally taller, longer and wider than the model it is expected to replace.
BMW automaker had to contemplate regarding the schedule of this preview event as its arch rival, Mercedes Benz, is expected to launched its India-bound E-Class V213 with customised longer wheelbase on 28th of February. BMW’s sole intention to organise this preview event for G30 5-series before the launch of the Mercedes car is to manipulate prospect buyers into considering the G30 over the V213.
On the global market, BMW offers two engine trims each for the diesel and petrol. The technical specifications of the India-bound BMW 5-series will only be known after the event goes underway on the 3rd of February. Once launched, the BMW 5-series will be competing against other top players in the segment like Audi A6, Jaguar XF and Mercedes Benz E-Class.
Interestingly, BMW had imported the 5-series car in India for testing purpose even before it was globally launched.
