BMW rolled out the 2016 all-new X1 SUV from the Chennai plant. The 2016 BMW X1 was unveiled at the Auto Expo 2016 in February earlier this year. The car gets more beefed and muscular in appearance now as compared to its predecessor. Being the smallest SUV in the company’s lineup, it was first introduced in 2009 in the country and haven’t received any update, since then.
The new BMW X1 is available in three trims - Expedition, xLine and the top-ranging performance filled M Sport, where the price starts at Rs. 29.90 lakh (ex showroom, pan India). Dimensionally, it is 4,439mm in length, 1821 in width, 1612 in height that makes it 53mm taller than the previous version along with a wheelbase that has been increased by 90mm, making it of 2670mm now. And with this increased size, the X1 gets some extra legroom space of 37mm for the occupants.
There are many exterior tweaks that have been given to the new X1 that includes two-ringed LED headlamps, new designed BMW’s signature kidney grille, restyled front bumper. Inside, it features a touchscreen infotainment system receives BMW head up display like the higher in the lineup models, while other features include Active Cruise Control, Driving Assistant Plus, Lane departure warning system, traffic jam assistant, collision warning system, pedestrian warning system and more.
Mechanically, the 2016 BMW X1 is powered packed with a a 2.0 litre TwinPower turbo diesel engine, which capable to churn out 190bhp at 4000rpm and yields torque of 400Nm ranging between 1750 to 2500rpm. The powertrain is coupled to an 8-speed Steptronic automatic sport transmission gearbox that drives power to all its wheels.
