This year’s edition of the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance is turning out to be quite busy for BMW as aside from unveiling the M4 GTS concept they are also showing this, the 3.0 CSL Hommage R concept. As the name suggests, it represents an evolution of the 3.0 CSL Hommage concept shown earlier this year at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este.
The main difference between the two concepts comes from the Brilliant White exterior paint scheme adopted by the R-badged concept which is also adorned with BMW racing stripes and has a unique set of 21-inch rims that have matte gold and black accents. It also has a tweaked front grille and a bespoke interior cabin with white leather upholstery, carbon fiber seats and a six-point safety harness.
BMW has also added a lightweight yet sturdy roll cage made from carbon fiber and there’s an eBoost charging indicator. Interestingly, the wood trim features illuminated sections showing the circuit’s layout as well as its braking points. This has been envisioned as a proper race car as it comes equipped with an emergency shut-off switch, a fire extinguisher and a display mounted within the steering wheel showing relevant information such as overall race time, lap times as well as the car’s current location on the circuit.
The BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage R concept also comes with a specially developed helmet featuring a visor that works as a head-up display to show off the vehicle’s speed, gear engaged and the engine revs. There’s also a bespoke racing suit that has illuminated piping lighting up to display “progress of information.”
This is most likely a non-functional concept developed purely for exhibitional purposes since BMW doesn’t say a word about what powers the vehicle. While the aforementioned M4 GTS concept will morph into a production car in the near future, that won’t be the case with this 3.0 CSL Hommage R.
