According to reports, the Mercedes Benz dealers across India have started to accept bookings for the upcoming GLA-Class with a down payment of Rs 1 lakh. In the initial phase, only the diesel trim level of the GLA-Class, i.e. the GLA 220 CDI will be offered on sale in the country. The GLA-Class first made its global premiere at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show and then, made its local debut at the 2014 Delhi Motor Show earlier this year.
With the launch of the GLA-Class slated to be around September 2014, Mercedes Benz will officially mark their entry into the compact luxury SUV segment. Based on the MFA platform as the A- and the B-, the GLA-Class is Merc’s smallest SUV offering yet. Progressive in design, serene in day-to-day motoring and with serious off-road capability, the GLA-Class impressively reinterprets the compact SUV segment.
On the inside, all trim surfaces of the baby-SUV have been galvanized in silver shadow for material authenticity. The dashboard consists of an upper and lower section, five round air vents and a large free-standing high-gloss display in piano- black. A 3-spoke steering wheel with 12 function keys come as standard. ckage loaded with a host of entertainment, safety and connectivity features.
Powering the GLA 220 CDI, is a 2.2-litre diesel engine that is able to produce 167PS of max power and 350Nm of peak torque. Power is sent to the front wheels or four wheels in case of the 4MATIC variant via a 7-Speed dual-clutch transmission.
When launched, the Mercedes Benz GLA-Class will compete with the likes of Audi Q3, BMW X1 and the Volvo V40 Cross Country in the Indian market. The compact crossover will be brought into the country via the CBU route.
