Tata Harrier Diesel With More Powerful BS VI Ready Engine Spied

Tata Harrier Diesel images featuring a more powerful 2.0-litre Multijet II oil burner have gone viral on the inter-web. The engine in question is the same unit which will make its debut on the off-road focused Jeep Compass Trailhawk. According to reports, this unit will comply with the upcoming BS VI emission norms, set to implement in India from April 1, 2020.

The test mules of Jeep Compass Trailhawk and Tata Harrier can be seen together in the spied image. Sources in the know reveal, the 2.0-litre Multijet II diesel engine is being tuned for both the models. Further details on Tata Harrier specifications reveal, its power output will be increased by 30 hp, from current 140 hp to 170 hp. However, the addition of BS VI engine to Compass will not make much difference to it in terms of output with the power figure ranging close to the existing model.

Reports also indicate the same engine will be used for Tata Harrier’s seven seat version, Tata Buzzard that will be launched next year in India. Aside from the diesel engines, both the SUVs will have the FCA sourced six-speed manual gearbox in common.  However, automatic variants of these models will get different transmissions.

That said, Jeep Compass Trailhawk will get a nine-speed torque converter automatic gearbox ( a first for Jeep in India), whereas Tata Harrier will get a six-speed torque converter automatic unit sourced from Hyundai. While Tata is in the process of upgrading diesel variants of its larger models with the upcoming BS VI diesel norms, its 1.05-litre, three-cylinder Revotorq diesel unit, which powers smaller models like Tigor and Tiago, will be discontinued.
