- The Ford EcoSport BS6 to be available in both, petrol and diesel engine options.
- 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine to retire.
- No major update apart from BS6 compliant engines.
The new BS6 compliant Ford EcoSport is set to hit showrooms this month. According to some dealers, prices for the new model will be announced sometime towards the end of this month. Apart from the updated line of engines, there will be no major changes in the new EcoSport. Now, going into the details, the compact SUV will get a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder turbo diesel engine. Besides, there will also be a 1.5-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine on offer. When it comes to the transmission options, these are likely to remain the same. That said, both engines will get a five-speed manual as standard while a six-speed torque converter automatic will come as an option with the petrol version.
The new Ford EcoSport BS6 will most likely not come with a 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine as upgrading the said engine due to low sales would not make any sense to the company. The said engine develops a healthy power and torque of 124hp and 170Nm respectively. It comes with a six-speed manual gearbox. The EcoBoost engine was available with a single S trim only that used to retail in India at a price of Rs 10.95 lakh (ex-showroom). However, the company will be replacing the said engine with Mahindra sourced 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine but at a later stage. It is the same motor powers the Mahindra XUV300.
The EcoSport will continue to go up against the likes of Hyundai Venue and Mahindra XUV300. More challenges will come from Tata Nexon and Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza as these two will be launched in new avatars in the weeks to come. Ford’s subcompact SUV will also rub shoulders with the Kia compact SUV that is set for India launch sometime later this year. In case you have been planning to buy the Ford EcoSport, now can be the best time for you to save some cash by opting for the BS4 model. Prices for the sub 4m SUV currently start in India at Rs 7.91 lakh (ex-showroom).
