Honda Cars India has launched the BS 6 certified City sedan at a starting price of Rs 9.91 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom, Delhi) in the country. Though, the Japanese automaker has introduced the BS 6 compliant variants in petrol fuel trim as the diesel variants continue to be sold in BS 4 trim.

The BS6 Honda City is nearly Rs 15,000 more expensive than the BS 4 models, while the prices of BS 4 diesel variants have also been increased by around Rs 5,000.

With the price hike of Rs 15,000 in the BS 6 petrol variants, Honda City has become one of the most expensive products in its segment, which might also dent its sales performance. In the C-segment of sedans, now only Maruti Ciaz and Honda City are available with BS 6 certified petrol engines. And, no car in the segment is available with a BS 6 compliant diesel engine.

The other contenders such as Hyundai Verna and Toyota Yaris are soon to get the BS 6 version of their ongoing BS 4 engines. In addition, the Verna will also receive the Kia Seltos' BS 6 1.5L diesel engine soon.

Coming to the Skoda Rapid and Volkswagen Vento, the duo will get a new BS 6 1.0L turbocharged petrol engine in place of the current 1.6L engine. Honda has also stated that it will launch the BS 6 certified diesel variants of the City before April 2020 in India.

Recently, the new-gen City sedan had its world premiere in Thailand and it is also expected to make a first public appearance in the Indian market at the 2020 Auto Expo in February with the market launch by mid-2020.
