Can the Street 750 change the game for Harley Davidson in India?

Snapshot: The model that was launched in February this year accounted for nearly 60% of Harley Davidson's sales in April 2014

Blame it on its competitive price or the cult image Harley Davidson has finally managed to make in the Indian market, the Street 750, that is built in India, is being welcomed by Indian market with open arms. The model that was launched in February this year at a jaw-dropping price of Rs 4.1 lakhs and had the bookings started in March, is proving to be the best thing the manufacturer has done in India do far.

According to a data released by Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), the model clocked a figure of 210 units out of total 361 bikes sold by the company in April. On the other hand, the company had sold 146 units in April 2013.

Out of the 13 models Harley Davidson sells in India, the Street 750 is the only model that is completely built in India at the Bawal plant in Haryana which is the reason Indian customers have been able to see an affordable Harley in flesh and blood.

However, according to Matthew Levatich, Co President and COO, Harley Davidson Motor Co., the localisation of Harley Davidsons in India will be limited to only Street 750 and Street 500.

According to the data released by SIAM, the company sold just 126 units in March, which is without the Street 750.
