Chennai still remains the Mecca for Indian racers; opens dirt track for practice

Chennai has been regarded as the cradle of Indian motorsport ever since the inception of the sport in India. The Sholavaram airstrip witnessed racing events being held between early 1960s till late 1980s. In 1990, the Irungattukottai Race Track was inaugurated and it soon became the most prime motor sport venue in the country.

Keeping the tradition alive, and that too in style, the Madras Motor Sports Club has inaugurated an all-new dirt track just in the neighbourhood of the race track. Well, it is not going to be used for competition, at least not anytime soon, but will be used by riders to practice and improve their skills. The track is approximately 400 meters in length and 10 feet wide. To make it serve its purpose well, it has been reasonably packed with different obstacles that will let the riders improve on various levels.

The riders will be needed to pay Rs. 200 for each session. Each day will consist of two such sessions - Pre-lunch and Post-lunch. With the minimum safety gear and Rs. 200, any rider can come and avail its benefits.
