The absence of Chevrolet from the compact segment is costing them too much! One of the most popular segment in India is explored and exploited by almost every manufacturer. Chevrolet in a bid to enter the segment will bring the Trax to the country.
Unveiled at the Paris Motor Show 2012, the Trax is closely related to the elder sibling, the Captiva. With strong muscular body, the Trax looks very chunky and will surely have more presence on the road than the competitors. The Trax stands tall and measures 4,248 mm, which is longer than 4-metres and the car will face issues when the pricing is decided because of the special taxes that are charged extra for the vehicles longer than 4-meters, but then the Duster did very well in the market and the car is longer than 4-meters too. The wheelbase of Trax is 2,555mm and width measures at 1776mm. The SUV will be termed as compact but is no compact when compared the compact segment SUVs in the country.
The interior of the Trax looks advanced and the dashboard is inspired by the popular Beat hatchback and the Cruze sedan. The space is well distributed and the seats will be spilt in 60/40 ratio with a capacity of 5 people. Chevrolet has also added a feature on front passenger seat through which the front seat can be folded completely but we are not so sure if this feature will make its way to India. Chevrolet MyLink powered infotainment system displays the contents from phone and various media devices to a big 7-inch screen, full colored screen.
For engines, Chevrolet might bring new engines in form of 1.7-liter turbo diesel with a maximum output of 131 PS and torque peaking at 300 Nm. Chevrolet desperately needs some boost in the Indian market to get them going. The Trax just might be the something Chevrolet India has been waiting for!
The Beat is undoubtedly the best seller from the Chevrolet brand, but if compared against competitors, the car is not doing really well. The new version was introduced in the international markets few months back and major change in the number was seen with the sale number bumping up. The Beat sells in the International markets as Spark. The hatchback has always been a good looking chap, but with new model, it has become even smarter.
The front fascia of the car sees a lot of changes, the grille has become bigger now and the fog lamp housings being more triangular. Chevrolet has worked on the design of the bumper too. The rear gets new tail-lamps along with minor changes done to the bumper and with the new alloy wheel design, the new Beat looks as good as anyone can expect.
The interiors of the new Beat will see a lot of changes with new colors sprinkling life into the car. The space will still be the same, a bit crammed for 5-adults, but good enough for daily single commuters.
Chevrolet is likely to fit the current petrol and diesel engines to the car as they are one of the most efficient engines in the segment. The new Beat might feature the ECOTEC engines too.
