Civic Type-R finally unveiled at Geneva Motor Show

Snapshot: Civic Type-R is one of the fastest and best looking hot hatches ever made and it has come to us after teasing us with some earlier prototype and concept models.

After a brilliant advertising streak that had the world on its toes where a simple flick of the button transformed the Civic Type-R from a sedated hatchback to a raging high on testosterone hatchback, went viral sometime ago, the beast has finally arrived today at the Geneva Motor show.

Civic Type-R is one of the fastest and best looking hot hatches ever made and it has come to us after teasing us with some earlier prototype and concept models. The buzz about the type-R reinforces after one of these in-development versions breaking the fastest lap record around the Nürburgring ever recorded for a front wheel drive car.  The car has impressive specs along with an imposing and dramatic stance, which is complemented by 19-inch 235/35 alloys, specifically developed for the Type R.

The car is powered by a 2.0 liter VTEC engine, pumping out 306 hp, which also happens to be the most powerful engine that the company has ever offered on a production car. The engine is powerful enough to burst to a top speed of 290 kmph , while if reports are to be believed, it can easily go from 0- 100 in just 5.7 seconds. . The car also, surprisingly, comes as a front wheel drive, which is quite uncommon for cars in the above 300hp range.

The car also comes with a six-speed manual transmission, adaptive dampers and a suspension to enhance stability for high speed cornering along with Brembo brakes which were again, specifically designed for the Type-R. Honda has plans to sell the car in the UK beginning this July and the car is slated to be priced about £29,995 while the GTs are to cost another £2300 on top of it. Honda currently has no plans of bringing the car to India.
