  • Tata Altroz to come with BS 6 engines.
  • Tata Altroz to be the widest car in the segment.
  • Tata Altroz to be launched before April 2020.

Tata Motors has confirmed the 'first look' reveal of Altroz premium hatch next month in the country. Being presented at the 2018 Auto Expo as 45X Concept, Tata Altroz was earlier slated for a launch in August but the company postponed it to Q1 2020 in order to equip it with BS 6 certified engines.

Recently, Tata Altroz was spotted in production-spec guise without any camouflage during its TVC shoot. Being the first company car to be based on the ALFA architecture, it is going to be the widest car in the segment. However, as speculations suggest, it will have the smallest wheelbase in the segment too.

The boot capacity is pegged at 341 liters. Reports suggest that the ALFA architecture will also spawn a mini-SUV in the near future. The exterior styling will be in line with Tata's IMPACT 2.0 design language which debuted with the Harrier.

Though not much is known about the cabin and features, it is expected to come with a plethora of premium features including a flat-bottomed multi-function steering wheel and a large touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto & Apple CarPlay. Mechanically, it will be offered with a couple of petrol and a diesel engine.

The petrol engine will be sourced from the Tiago while the Nexon's 1.2L turbocharged motor capable of delivering 102bhp will also be available in the top-end trims. The diesel variants will draw power from the 90bhp 1.5L 4-cylinder engine. Initially, a manual transmission will be on offer as standard while auto gearbox will be launched at a later stage.

Tata Altroz will take on the likes of Hyundai i20, Maruti Baleno, Toyota Glanza and Volkswagen Polo in the Indian market.
