Datsun has advanced the launch of GO Cross to 2017, claims an Autocar India report. The Datsun GO Cross made its India debut as concept car at the 2016 Auto Expo in February. Recently, the company launched the redi-GO - the third Datsun model - in India at an introductory price of Rs. 2.39 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom, Delhi). The GO Cross is expected to be launched in a price range of Rs. 4.5-5.5 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom), while offering several high-end features.
The report further states that Datsun had received fair reponse from the buyers when it showcased the GO Cross at the 2016 Auto Expo. The response was overwhelming and it compelled the company to forward its launch by couple of years as earlier, it was learnt that Go Cross would be introduced in 2019. Based on the Go+ MPV, the Go Cross would feature black plastic body cladding, larger tires, silver skid plates, and roof rails. All these features were seen with the concept and they are expected to find place in the production-spec Go Cross as well. The Go-Cross is believed to be measuring under 4-meters in length in production guise, so that it can enjoy the tax benefits and the pricing can be extremely competitive.
It is being reported that Datsun thinktank is further working on the strategy of lowering down the costs of the Nissan-sourced V-Platform by locally assembling its several components in India and by reducing the cost of sub-assemblies and raw materials. As for Go Cross, the cost-effective arm of the Japanese automaker would offer it with a new ‘connected car’ interior. Datsun cars are currently retailed via Nissan outlets, and the company has plans to have its separate dealerships in the country. The Go Cross would be the most expensive Datsun offering in India, while it lock horns with Ford EcoSport and Maruti Vitara Brezza in the sub 4-meter SUV segment.
