Datsun GO, launched earlier this year at the Auto Expo, was an ambitious project for the Nissan, who brought Datsun to the Indian shores, looking to dominate the budget car market, currently occupied by the likes of Marutis and Hyundais. But the GO, failed to create much of an impact among the potential buyers due to not so good marketing strategies by Nissan and the negligible brand recognition.
Nissan is struggling hard to create a repo of itself and Datsun, in the Indian market and they are doing major work at the corporate level, with recent changes in the top management and appointing of 'Yaya Toure', the football star, as the global ambassador. In all these aggressive activities to gain the momentum of sales, they have unlocked a closed genre of the direct aggressive marketing against a rival brand.
In the recently launched TVC by Datsun, the GO is shown competing against the Maruti Alto and Wagon-R. Although they removed the logos in accordance to the rules, still we all are perceptive here, aren't we? The TVC stars Ayushman Khurana and Alok Nath, famous actors from the Indian Television industry. The Datsun Go can be seen mocking Maruti vehicles in terms of luggage space, looks, and engine.
Datsun GO TVC
The Datsun GO is powered by a three cylinder 1.2-litre engine which produces 68 BHP, enabling it to reach 0-100 in 13 sec. Power is transmitted to the wheels via a 5-speed gearbox to the front wheels. With the features like Mobile Docking System, bench seats, and the single din music system, the car offer all the basic amenities of a budget car. Priced between Rs 3.1 lakh to Rs 3.8 lakh, the Datsun GO is also a value for money car.
The biggest competitors of the Datsun GO are the Hyundai Eon and the Maruti Suzuki Alto 800. Although, with this TVC, the GO has taken a direct dig at the Maruti, still it will be interesting to see whether the TVC will help to improve the sluggish sales of the GO?
