The Datsun RediGo is just few days away from its unveiling and the brand has teased it very well. The teaser image shows the top view of the hatch and the brand owned by Nissan, Datsun has officially announced the unveiling of its new hatchback model, Datsun RediGo in India. The unveiling of the hatch is scheduled for April 14 in New Delhi, followed by a launch sometime in June.
Based on the Renault Kwid’s CMF-A platform, which is a low cost platform, is an entry level small car that will be positioned under Datsun Go. The RediGo made its global debut at the 2014 Auto Expo as a concept car, nearly two years back. It has been spotted a couple of times as a test mule on Chennai roads, near Renault Nissan factory, albeit with camouflage.
Under the hood, the RediGo will be powered by an 800cc 3-cylinder petrol motor that will be capable to deliver 54 PS and 72 Nm of torque, while the power will be transmitted by a 5-speed manual transmission. Earlier, it was speculated that Datsun Redigo would carry the Nissan's 1.2L, 3-cylinder petrol engine, which also powers the Datsun GO and Nissan Micra.
But just like the Renault Kwid, the development of the low cost Datsun took place in India and is almost fully localized here. And with this, the cost structure would help Datsun come up with a highly competitive price tag. Once launched, the new hatch will compete with the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Alto 800.
