Datsun RediGo would have its world premiere on April 14, 2016 in New Delhi, India. It would be the third Datsun offering in the country after the GO hatch and GO+ MPV. The RediGo would share several elements with Renault Kwid, while being the new entry-level model of Datsun range in India. It is being learnt that the RediGo would be launched towards the end of May 2016 in the country with price starting as low as Rs. 2.50 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom) for the base variant.
The RediGo made its global debut as concept car at the 2014 Auto Expo, nearly two years back. It has been spotted a couple of times as test mule on Chennai roads, near Renault Nissan factory, albeit with camouflage. Underpinning the same CMF-A platform as the Renault Kwid, it would have taller stance and wouldn't be much different than the concept car. The ground clearance is expected to be around 200mm with prime focus on cabin space. However, it might not feature digital instrument cluster and touchscreen infotainment system as the Kwid.
Mechanically, the RediGo would get the Kwid's 800cc, 3-cylinder petrol motor. However, it was speculated widely that Datsun Redigo would carry the Nissan's 1.2L, 3-cylinder petrol engine, which also powers the Datsun GO and Nissan Micra. But, now it is almost clear that, in all likelihood, the baby Datsun would come loaded with the Kwid's 0.8L engine, with the 5-speed manual gearbox as standard. Quite identical to the Kwid, the RediGo would also have the 1.0L engine and AMT gearbox, but only by the end of 2016. For those asking, Renault India showcased the 1.0L engine and AMT gearbox variants of the Kwid at the 2016 Auto Expo and the duo is expected to launch by mid 2016 in the country.
