Having resurrected the low-cost Datsun brand in India with the recently launched Go hatchback, the parent company Nissan is now eying to expand foothold in the emerging Russian market. So far, Datsun has announced the on-Do sedan for the Russian market that is expected to make its commercial debut in June 2014, while a hatchback called the mi-Do was also spotted doing test rounds in the country.
And now, as per the latest reports, it is understood that the third product to land in the Russian market is confirmed to be a crossover, based on the redi-Go concept that was recently previewed at the 2014 Delhi Motor Show. The said development was brought to light by the head of Datsun Russia, Mr Jerome Saigot.
The redi-Go concept as described by Datsun is a five-door hatchback that has designed to look sporty and rugged like an SUV. The concept was said to be the company’s idea of a crossover for the Indian market, but it seems like the Russian market has taken a precedence over India for the time being.
Just like the case is in India, the Datsun cars will be a budget offering in the Russian market as well, with the sticker prices restricted to 4,00,000 ruble range or Rs 6.83 lakh approximately. The three models - on-Do sedan, mi-Do hatchback and the upcoming crossover will represent the Datsun brand in Russia for the next three years.
